What are the effective home remedies for menstrual cramps?

My best friend has been having menstrual cramps since she reached puberty. There had never been a time in all her ten years of menstruation that she didn’t feel severe pains and sometimes it gets so bad that the doctor has to put her on strong analgesics. It happened to her mother too, but stopped when she started having babies. My friend has two kids now, but the cramps persist. Does anyone know of any effective home remedies for treating menstrual cramps?

Menstrual cramps are certainly no enjoyment. Unfortunately, a large number of women worldwide are suffering monthly from the discomforts of menstrual pains affecting especially the lower abdominal area, lower back, and sometimes even their thighs and heads. The pain is most pronounced immediately prior to or during a woman’s monthly period and can be couples with other symptoms, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, or upset stomach. The good news is that there are a variety of options available to those suffering from menstrual pain. Home remedies to relieve the symptoms of menstrual cramps include applying a heat source to the abdominal area, such as a heating pad or a hot water bottle, taking a warm bath, elevating the legs while lying down, lying in an infantile position with the knees drawn up to the chest while lying on one side to relieve back pain, and exercising lightly during menstruation. If the pains are very severe, tampons might be replaced with sanitary napkins. Over-the-counter medicine can also be applied to take away some of the associated pain. Ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are often a popular choice to relieve pain from menstruation. Acetaminophen is another option if ibuprofen is found not to work.
