The original Sony PlayStation console had the following dimensions: 10.63 inches wide, 2.36 inches tall, and 7.4 inches deep. It also weighed about 3.96 lbs. It was first released in 1994 in Japan and in 1995 across the world.
As with all future PlayStation models, Sony later released an updated "slim" model of the console in 2000, known simply as either the "PSone" or the "PS one". It was slightly smaller than the original, with the updated version being 10.23 inches wide, 1.5 inches tall, and 7.28 inches deep. It was built so that it could be easily transportable and playable almost anywhere, even inside a car, where it could be powered by the cigarette lighter. A separate small and detachable LCD screen was available to take advantage of its mobility.
