What are the dangers of tattooing the whites of the eyes?

Do specific colors present different dangers?
Are there instant dangers?
Ones that may take a few months or a few years to become apparent?

Thanks!

Wow, I didn't even know this was going on, or that it was possible. Well, there are definitely some risks that go along with tattooing the eyes. Apparently, it can potentially cause "Infection, loss of vision, blindness, perforation and hemorrhage." Also, the... patient, I guess you could say, can feel like there's something stuck in their eye. More dangers include getting corneal erosions or keratitis. Keratitis can result in enflames cornea and surrounding area as well as a loss of some. eyesight. Corneal erosion actually exposes nerves in the eye because of the loss of connective cells.

I couldn't find anything yet on the effects of different colors or on time periods it takes for these symptoms to take effect, so sorry about that. But in any case, I would suggest NOT doing this.

Yes...yes it is lol
I think my most 'daring' tat will be inside my lip and that isn't very daring!

Yeah I just saw it on LockUp the other night and I was shocked! I guess people just get crazier and crazier eh? I know of one tattoo someone got around here...but the thought of it makes me want to gag...let's say it's in a dark place...near an exit only...>.< If you catch my drift...and I don't mean the cheek either....

Thanks for answering!

To me tattoos feel like a series of little cat scratches, some deeper then others. The only one that bugged me was my lower back, since it was my first, i forgot to breathe and it was on my spine. The 5 others didn't bug me one bit! I'm sure the lip will bug me, but it'll be so small and quick shouldn't be too big of a deal.

yes @bunnyphuphu contact lenses are a MUCH better alternative! That's for sure!! They may be more expensive to some, but I would rather pay for contacts then to be blind!

Oh wow. No, I think that's pretty daring. There are a lot of nerves in there. I'd be scared! My most daring one was on the back of my neck (LOL not daring AT ALL). I thought it would hurt so much, but it felt like I was getting a back scratch! It was relaxing!

HA! Now that intrigues me a little. But not enough to ask... :)
I mean, I love tattoos, but some are just weird and then some are completely disgusting! It's a crazy world out there.

It almost angers me that people will take the risk of their own vision to have something they might get tired of, or might fade in a 'not-so-pretty' way.

Our eyes are so delicate, believe me... I know!
Why not just go to this site

and buy some kick-ass contact lenses, and have a different freaky look for every night of the week?

That makes my eyeballs hurt to even think about it.
Tats are cool but if I met someone who had this done i'm sure it would creep me out to much to stay around them.

Tattooing can cause blindness, infection, scarring and hemorraging.

Some tattoo artists are starting to do blue eye tattoos. One technique involves injecting your eye with a traditional needle with ink on it. However, this is extremely risky. Another method is for the artist to inject ink into your eye with a syringe. It turns the entire white part of you eye blue.

Tattoing the cornea or the white of the eye is extremely dangerous according to Dr. Sandra Belmont, a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Other potential complications are:
1. infection
2. perforation and hemorrhage

Good reason to get an eye tattoo aside from cosmetic:
1. if a person has eye trauma like burning laceration or bruising, which can result to scar and can be covered by tattoo.
2. people who have leucoma which is an opaque blemish which is usually white in color to return the eye's appearance to one of more normalcy.

There are two procedures to tattoo the eyes:
1. traditional needle with ink on it but when the ink does not hold they opted for the second which is:
2. syringe that injected ink into the eye
