What are the competitors to Mahalo Answers? I mean other places you can ask a question, like Yahoo Answers or Cha Cha or Twitter itself.

I think that the main competition is Ask Metafilter, at http://ask.metafilter.com/.
They have a really good community over there. I asked a question a while ago, and got about 80 answers, most of them high-quality and well-written.
I think they require a one-time $5 donation to ask questions, so it keeps out the riff-raff.
I'm not sure if they cater to the same audience as Mahalo Answers, but it's still pretty compelling.

Mahalo Answers is probably competing primary with Yahoo Answers and Wiki.Answers.com, since those are the largest Q&A sites out there.
Metafilter is great, but it's not an open system with ranking, etc. It's more like a closed blog. I LOVE metafilter and I'm super impressed with their community. I think we're going into that style of superhelpful and intelligent community... it takes time. :-)

There's also Askville, but I've never really used it.

MyLot is the only other paying site that I know of right now.

Yahoo Answers and Wiki Answers are on to admittingly. But another hidden one is Answerbag.com. But, I would say that Mahalo has clear advantage on them because of its Tips option. It is just that in those potential countries(like Pakistan etc) where Paypal isn't operating, Mahalo has less chances there. Otherwise Mahalo Answers will be leading those countries where Paypal is operating and might beat Yahoo and Wiki Answers.

The head contains several popular terms while the long tail consists of many obscure keywords or longer phrases.
