What are the chances of there being an international nuclear war within then next 25 years? Should I prepare now just in case?

I was thinking of this while playing Fallout 3 today, haha.

The chances of an international nuclear war are both very high and very low.

It is high because: quite a few nations posess nuclear armerments (9 to 22), some of these nations are unstable, there are approx 24,000 warheads worldwide, terrorist groups would love to use a nuclear weapon.

It is low because: quite a few nations posess nuclear warheads(they know there would be retaliation), the non-proliferation treaty discourages emerging nations (which tend to be unstable) from posessing war heads, MAD (or mutually asurred distruction), fallout would affect the food and health of every nation, the test ban makes the testing (and therefore development) of nuclear weapons illegal.

The doomsday clock stands at five to midnight. This indecates a relatively high threat, but it has been as close to midnight as three minutes.

There is nothing wrong with preparation, just keep it in moderation. It can come in handy for floods or even the loss of your job.

If you are serious about preparing for a nuclear attack, you may benefit from this Irwin Redlener video from the TED Conference

Honestly? I think in the next 25 years there will not be a nuclear war simply because the cost/value is not worth it (except with situations like Japan in WW2 when the US dropped two atomic bombs) Yes of course because of the chain reaction that will occur (which we all learned in our history classes) cause at least 9 countries have nukes, people will be firing them everywhere. So the one country with the potential to actually start a nuclear war is North Korea, only because they have a bunch of crack heads ruling their country. North Korea potentially has nuclear missiles that can reach Japan and are testing more missiles that can reach Alaska. If you give them enough time, they could get it all th way to the main coast of the US.Terrorists There are many speculations that North Korea sold it's nuclear technology to countries such as Syria and Iran. Since Israel is listed among the countries with nuclear arms, they could possibly use it out of necessity in such instable surround regions. That was the whole issue with the war in Iraq, to find weapons of mass destructions, but they didn't find any. But no, I don't think there will be a war in the Middle East within 25 years and I feel like it is very unlikely that North Korea will launch it's missiles against any country simply because I feel like their trump card (nuke) is only used as a bluffing mechanism. So the closest we will get to a nuclear war is pretty much up to North Korea, but even that is unlikely within the next 25 years. And even if North Korea decides to have a nuclear war, I don't they will attack Canada so it'll be a waste of time to prepare for a nuclear war, so my advice is, no, don't waste your time on that..

While the impending danger of an all out nuclear war that would destroy civilization has greatly diminished in the post-Soviet era. Lol, play games are great, they provoke thought! Anyways, I think it could happen, I personally dont think we can look at facts, because facts dont always mean anything. Sometimes people or countries act without much thought. I know that sound weird, but what I mean is that people act impulsively so of course countries would as well. Countries and people try to do surprise attacks, so it could happen at any moment, but it does not mean it will happen.

Should I prepare now just in case?
Sure, but don't panic about it. being prepared is always important.

Localized scenarios don't work out either.
