San Antonio played a pivotal role in the history of the State of Texas and offers an eclectic fusion of American, Hispanic and Native American cultures. Here are some of the must-see attractions:

The Alamo: located on Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio - the most popular tourist site in Texas –was immortalized by its role at the center of Texan resistance to the attack launched by General Antonio López de Santa Anna on February 23rd, 1836.

The San Antonio River Walk: also known as the Paseo Del Rio is a beautifully landscaped 3.2 mile pedestrianised walkway on the banks of the San Antonio River. Cafe's, bars, shops, hotels and museums line the banks of the river – including the famous Casa Rio restaurant. The River Walk is a great place to eat, walk or take a river boat tour: http://www.riosanantonio.com/content/publish/tours.shtml

Arneson River Theater: An outdoor theater - located adjacent to the historic La Villita Village on the River Walk - has been hosting plays, fiestas and concert performances since 1939.

San Antonio Sea World: is one of 10 parks operated by Sea World Parks & Entertainment in the USA and is located on Ellison Drive and Westover Hills Boulevard in San Antonio. The park utilizes a mix of live marine animal shows, educational programs and Water and Roller Coaster rides.

San Fernando Cathedral : The beautiful and imposing church of San Fernando was built between 1738-1749 in the Gothic-revival style and named for Ferdinand III of Leon & Castille (1198-1252). It claims to be the oldest cathedral in the United States.

Market SquareEl Mercado: A technicolor fusion of old and new with a distinctly Hispanic flavor in this three block section of San Antonio.

La Villita: houses a small village of artisans and craftsmen and is located just off the River Walk in downtown San Antonio.

If you have time you can also check out The Spanish Governor's Palace - the former residence of the captain of the Spanish presidio – and the stunning 1920's era Emily Morgan Hotel.
