What are the best teas in the world? (no tisanes or herbal teas please)

Where could you get them cheap?
Tip for best answer: M$0.22
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I've answered one or two tea questions before, like here:

http://www.mahalo.com/answers/from-twitter/what-is-arguably-the-best-earl-grey-tea-in-the-world

The teas listed there are among the best, so not especially cheap. But you might want to look at :

http://www.specialteas.com/

Run by tea-lovers for tea-lovers, and the prices are pretty reasonable considering.

This is a subjective question: because different people have different tastes, there is no one correct answer. Tea is diverse and comes in many different varieties. One person's favorite might not even be enjoyed by another person. But I do think that the best teas are only available as loose-leaf tea, not in tea bags.

I run a tea rating and review website, which you might find useful:

http://ratetea.net/

My personal favorite tea company on the inexpensive range of things is Upton Tea Imports. It is a mail-order-only company, and it has some teas that are very low in price (some under $4 or $5 for 125 grams or over 4 ounces). It's the only company I've been able to find that combines low price and quality, and also has a big selection.

You might also want to narrow down your question by specific variety of tea. If you're looking only at pure teas (not flavored teas or herbal teas) you can browse varieties of these here:
