What are the best selling Nintendo video games?

What games impressed you the most? Do you like the game’s concepts?

I am a great fan of Nintendo games. I used to play Super Mario Bros. on it. The origin of the game ways back to 1889 Japanese playing cards, then in 1980 the video game was produced.

Since then, Nintendo has gone on to become the third most valuable company in Japan, selling more than 470 million home game consoles and handhelds as of 2009. The latest development being release of a new handheld system known as the DSi in North America.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are several generations of Nintendo game consoles, and each has its own 'best selling' games. I'll try to cover them all (and not reminisce too long wit this trip down memory lane):

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8a/Nintendo_entertainment_system.jpeg">Image:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8a/Nintendo entertainment system.jpegThe Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, which was the original console by Nintendo:
This console was dominated by two game series: Super Mario Bros. (1, 2, 3), Zelda (he Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) and Dragon Warrior (I, II, III). All these games sole well over a million copies, and comprise most of the top ten of the console's game sales ever.Super Mario Bros is the absolute winner with 40.23 million copies sold, followed by episode 2 (18 million copies) and 3 (10 million copies).

For the spritual follow-up, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, again Mario rules the charts, Super Mario World sold over 20 million copies.
Mario's main adversary, Donkey Kong, ranks second, with Donkey Kong Country (8 million copies), followed by a third Mario-related game, Super Mario Kart (also 8 million copies).

It's getting boring, but also the Nintendo 64 charts are lead by Mario games
1. Super Mario 64 with 11 million copies,
2. Mario Kart 64 (9 million copeis)
But, surprisingly, position 3 is a totally different game: GoldenEye 007!

For the Game Cube, it's back to Mario:
1. Super Smash Bros. Melee
2. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
3. Super Mario Sunshine

The Wii is a completely different story. The top "games" for that system are:
1. Wii Sports
2. Wii Play and
2. Wii fit

For the different Gameboy versions (Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance), the top 3 is:
1. Tetris
2. Pokemon (many different colors)
3. Nintendogs (many different versions)

Which one of these I like best myself? I own a Wii, and love it when my wife uses it every time :) (oh, she's not in the video)

As a conclusion from all these lists, it's safe to say Mario is the king of Nintendo games, followed on a large distance by Link from Zelda. Of course the many Mario games are very different, he features in platforming games, as well as in the many Mario Kart games. Still, i like a bit more 'mature' games myself, so I refrain from Nintendo games as it is, and focus om playing my Playstation 3 games instead.
