What are the best romantic musicals ever?

Some romantic musicals I find to be painful and corny, so much that I don't enjoy them. However, some others leaving me wanting more. I don't think that this is a very common occurrence in a movie like it once was. I have not seen any for awhile that I can recall, but one that really sticks out in my mind is 'Easter Parade' with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.

What are your favorites?

It was tradition when I was growing up to go to the one retro theatre in town that would always play Singin' In The Rain on Christmas day. I never got tired of seeing Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds slowly fall in love.

For those that don't like the old fashioned musicals (and I know quite a few) there is always the recent musical love story that the younger generation might like. The Moulin Rouge! creates cover songs from the 70's and 80's and transforms them into some wonderful eye candy! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor steal this musical show with great acting and singing by both. One of these classics are bound to please!

As far as romantic musicals go, I would have to say that the best of all time, would have to go to the West Side Story. That is just a beautiful move, and musical. It was a modern day Romeo and Juliet musical, with all modern type music and everything. I just really enjoyed it. I do however think they should actually do a re make of that movie, to make it modern for our time. I think every generation needs a great romantic feel good musical or movie to fall back on, so it is way past over due. I just think it would be awesome. Then again not sure who else would think so, I am just a big fan of musicals in general, as long as they are well written and preformed, I am a sucker!

I think these are the best romantic musical films ever:

1. West Side Story which stars Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer. I think I just like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet too much, this could be the reason that I like this story. The scenes are alive with energetic dance scenes, colored, has stirring music with romantic lyrics.

2. My Fair Lady is also a great romantic musical. The story about Higgins who take Eliza and promise to transform her into a lady and unexpectedly fell in love with her.

3. Moulin Rouge is also a favorite of mine because it is filled with pop as well as classical music. It is also bright and filled with vivid colors and elaborate dance number as well as over the top sets. It tells about a young penniless poet who falls madly in love with a beautiful but doomed courtesan.

Two of my favorites are "Now, Voyager" with Bette Davis and Paul Henreid, and "Wuthering Heights" with Merle Oberon as Catherine and Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff. Another favorite is "The King and I."

"Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars."
