What are the best perennial Food plants for a Northern Vegetable Garden?

I've had success with herbs-- such as chives, oregano, and sage. Some salad greens--such as dandelion and watercress...and rhubarb (although it's not a vegetable. While not a perennial, I harvest my kale until its covered with snow, and then generally get another harvest in the spring before after the snow melts.
