Well... when I was a kid, "energy drinks" were semi-approved by my parents, but they were a tad into the concept of proper nutrition, so they had a simple rule:

They had to be fruit juice, or milkshakes, or milk. No soda pops, nothing with caffeine, and not even koolaid unless we were visiting friends and family, and there was absolutely nothing else. And we'd "push the envelope" by making it chocolate milk or a chocolate milkshake.

During those hot summer Popsicle days, the rule was that we could eat home-made icicles if they were made from fruit juice, and so that became a standard thing for me and my sibs to do when we had a minute and noticed that there was some spare juice in the fridge... make some fruit-juice icicles.

It didn't affect our appetites, or make us nervous wrecks, however, we were active anyway, and so would just burn it up (didn't live in a city suburb, rather, always on the edge of town next to the forests and coolies, so we had room to run), and we were kept off the caffeine and pure sugar-water soda pops.

So... sure, as long as it's real food.

Thank you omicron for bringing some real perspective to the question i didn't expect that. Thank you!

I'd also like to add to that, the simple fact that everyone might be missing.
Not all drinks labeled "energy drinks" in ways might necessarily mean they have high amounts of caffeine/taurine or sugar in them.

Allot of drinks made by the pepsi owned company Sobe, while some DO have good amounts of caffeine and sugar, they also have beneficial nutrients in them.

All in all I think the trick is to find a healthy balance and to use caffeine and sugar to your advantage and have a good disciplined diet.

Basically, no one should consume energy drinks. The "energy" provided by these beverages is the same "energy" that is typically provided by more conventional soft drinks like Coca-Cola: namely, caffeine and sugar. There is not a ton of study out there about the impact of caffeine on kids, but if you wouldn't give your child a strong cup of coffee, you probably wouldn't want to give them a Rockstar or an Amp energy drink either. (Caffeine has been known to cause anxiety and difficulty sleeping, even in some adults).

NEVER give kids energy drinks.
There is no nutrition in them. Plus,Kids have enough energy on their own.

The ONLY thing you should give them and only when they are sick is gatorade preferably pedialyte.Only when vomiting or dehydration is a concern.

How about just plain orange or apple juice? The sugars in them turn into carbs and although I am not a nutritionist I believe the carbs then turn into energy. I am sure that any natural fruit drink or even water would be better than a processed energy drink with god only knows what chemical additives.

These drinks would also have the added bonus of natural vitamins such as vitamin C.

Also a lot of energy drinks have caffeine in them which will shoot your energy level up and then come down, like coffee. In order to keep your energy level high and on an even level you need to keep drinking it. And caffeine dyhydrates the body.

The best "energy drink" is a piece of fruit.

Kids should not consume energy drinks.

The most prevalent ingredient in energy drinks is caffeine. That's what generally provides the energy. Different energy drinks contain different amounts of caffeine but you can probably assume that the larger containers have at least 2 or 3 servings per. The small containers have very concentrated versions.

Because of the extremely high levels of caffeine, it's very easy to become addicted to it. Caffeine addiction can cause many health problems including insomnia, high blood pressure, and heart disease (not to mention the headaches when coming down from caffeine highs). People addicted to caffeine get the headaches and then drink more caffeine to get rid of them, thus perpetuating the cycle.

Energy drinks are also unregulated. They do not have to have warning labels. Some people are pushing to get them to label but it hasn't gone through yet. In effect, you really have no idea what you're drinking.

There is also speculation that energy drinks caused the death of a 28 year old Australian man back in 2007.

In moderation, perhaps energy drinks aren't as nefarious as they sound. However, they are high in sugar and caffeine and taste good; therefore, kids would probably want to drink more and more of them. I wouldn't take the chance.

No energy drink is good for children. But, if it comes down to the most healthy, I would do Monster of Full Throttle.
