What are the best dog breeds for someone with cattle?

My uncle has several head of cattle. He recently was diagnosed with Lupus. We really don't want him on the farm alone when counting the cattle and gathering them up to feed and transport them. He is very independent and wants to work. So, we are thinking about getting him a dog to help him herd up the cattle and give him companionship.

What dog breeds are the best for cattle farmers?

There are a lot of dog breeds that farmers use for herding cattle but tow breeds i would highly recommend would be

1.Border Collie

----quote----
Like many intelligent breeds, the Border Collie needs a job to do. If they don't have a purpose in life or some kind of job, they will not be happy. Border Collies should definitely not be left at home alone all day, and if they are, they can become quite destructive . They need constant companionship, praise, and extensive exercise. So if you work and live in the city, a Border Collie probably isn't the dog for you! Because of their legendary intelligence, Border Collies set the standard in competitions for such skills as agility, obedience and of course, sheepdog trials.

2.Shetland Sheepdog
----quote----
The Shetland Sheepdog, often known as the Sheltie and sometimes as the Shetland Collie, is a breed of dog in the herding dog group.

Shelties have the herding dog temperament. They are vocal, excitable, energetic dogs who are always willing to please and hard workers. They were used in the Shetland Islands for herding and protecting sheep.

They are small dogs, 13–16 inches (33–41 cm) at the withers by AKC Conformation standards, and they come in a variety of colors, such as Sable/White, Tri-color, Blue Merle, and so forth.

Border Collies are great dogs for cattle, many experts say it's the best cowherding dog. My friend had a Border Collie and ONE cow, and that dog kept an eye on that poor cow all day!

I think German Shepherd is the best dog breed for someone with a cattle. This breed gets along with other animals and they are good with herding.
