Every person's allergy varies and so it is advised that one should visit the dog and see for himself if he is allergic to it or not. These are generally the dogs that are considered "hypoallergenic" to a person.

@annelisle gave quite a comprehensive list, so I won't name any other dogs but can offer a few more hints about dealing with dog allergies.

A lot of the new crossbreeds have one poodle parent for the hypoallergenic coat, but if you go for a designer dog be careful who you buy it from. Lots of inferior-quality crossbreeds out there because they're so popular. Don't buy one from a pet store, those are puppy mill puppies, but go to a reputable breeder who's been in business for a while and knows what he's doing. Ask if the parent stock have been tested for genetic conditions common to the parent breeds, and ask to see verification.

Also, at home you can help reduce pet allergies by keeping your dog out of your bedroom and off the upholstery where the fabrics will trap the dander. Keep your dog well-groomed--brush him daily and bathe him once a week to reduce the dander on the dog and in your house.
