What is Propolis ? Propolis is a sticky resin that seeps from the buds of some trees and oozes from the bark of other trees, chiefly conifers. The bees gather propolis, sometimes called bee glue, and carry it home in their pollen baskets. They blend it with wax flakes secreted from special glands on their abdomens. Propolis is used to slickly line the interior of brood cells in preparation for the queen's laying of eggs, a most important procedure. With its antiseptic properties, this propolis lining insures a hospital-clean environment for the rearing of brood.

Health benefits of bee propolis are quite numerous and there are many ongoing studies that are showing great promise in areas such as its ability to fight cancer and infertility.
Propolis has been shown to improve the human immune system by increasing the formation of antibodies that increase our body resistance to diseases and stimulating our body to release chemicals that protect us from cellular deterioration.
Propolis has very positive effects in the treatment of burns especially by reducing the inflammation of burnt skin.
There has been some positive studies which indicate an increase fertility rate among women with infertility.
Dental care is another benefical application.
As a mouthwash propolis appears to shorten healing time following oral surgery and as a preventitive for periodontitis.
Propolis has been shown to increase the effectiveness of antibiotics and may help reduce the various side effects associated with the use of antibiotics.
Bee propolis is some amazing stuff and as more research is done on it the more benefical applications seem to be emerging.

Bee Propolis
The use of Bee Propolis for medicinal use is not new, it has been dated as far back as 350 BC
Its thought to have been used by ancient Egyptian priest doctors both medicinally and in the use of mummification.

Modern scientific studies indicate that those who take propolis regularly escape winter colds and sore throats and seem to develop a natural immunity to common viruses, including the various strains of flu.
Bee Propolis indeed deserves the recognition of being called "Nature's premier preventive."

I am a beekeeper and have used propolis from my hives for 30 plus years and in that time I cannot recall having a single cold or any type of flu bug.
I attribute this to my intake of propolis.
I reccommend it to everyone I know as a suppliment to their diet.

propolis does have proven antibiotic and antiseptic properties and may also have antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects. I consider it safe and useful as a home remedy. You can find it in various forms in health food stores or get the raw stuff from beekeepers. I recommend it as a good topical treatment for uncomplicated wounds and, when used as a gargle or in spray form, as a remedy for sores and irritations in the mouth. I use propolis in tincture form to treat canker sores and sore throats.
