Hi tjaldrum,

The term high impact exercise means those exercises in which both your feet leave the ground simultaneously. Some examples of this type of exercise are jumping, rope skipping, and sprinting. These exercises are very effective in burning fat, building muscles and strengthening bones. It is will give you effective results in a very short time. Your cardio rate will also increase, thus letting you develop strong heart.

However these exercises are not for you if you have knee problems like arthritis as they put a heavy stress on your knees. Similarly if you suffer from osteoporosis or osteopenia then this kind of exercise can stress your bones, thus worsening the problem. It is not suitable for those with cardiac problems or those with autoimmune problems. Also don’t go overboard with these exercises as they can be quite stressful on your body.
