As electronics continue to shrink in size , researchers are looking for replacement to silicon .
Graphene offers high mobility and less scattering than silicon , theoretically it offers more stability than silicon at nano levels . But problem is with energy gap which is essential for the electronic semi conductors . Graphene made up of nano carbon particles lack that . though it is possible to create energy gap by using graphene in the form of nano ribbons , dealing with energy gap behavior in nano ribbons is still complicated . Another problem is with the rough edges that created by nano ribbons , though offers control over it in nano level , precised control at atomic levels still to be achieved .
However , many researches in semiconductor industry see a potential contender for silicon in graphene .
