The tissues of a plant are organized into three tissue systems: the dermal tissue system, the ground tissue system, and the vascular tissue system.
The function of the dermal tissue system is protection and prevention of water loss. The tissues involved are the epidermis and the periderm. The function of the ground tissue system is photosynthesis, regeneration, protection, food storage and support. The tissues involved are the parenchyma tissue, the collenchyma tissue and the sclerenchyma tissue. The function of the vascular tissue system is the transportation of water and minerals and the transportation of food Xylem tissue. The tissue involved is the phloem tissue.
Plant tissues are divided into growth (embryonic) tissues, supporting, filling and photosynthetic tissues (ground tissues), conductive (vascular) tissues and covering (dermal) tissues.
