It was fun, but it took quite a bit of patience.
The designs are what sold me in putting all the time and effort into just one egg. They are beautiful and part of a beautiful Eastern European heritage.
Here are two sites that will show you what you need and how to make these gems for your Easter basket!

M$Cut the scarves or ties into squares large enough to wrap the egg in. Then you need a piece of cheesecloth or white fabric. Place the silk wrapped egg in the white cloth and tie it shut with a piece of yarn or a grocery bag twist tie.
When you have all your eggs wrapped and tied, place them in the bottom of a large (non-reactive) pot and cover with water. Add three tablespoons white vinegar and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
Remove the eggs and allow to cool. Unwrap and there you go! Unique and beautifully colored and patterned easter eggs the easy way.
You can re-use the silk 2 - 3 times. You can get a bunch of silk ties in the bargain bin at the local thrift store for about the same price as a commercial egg coloring kit.

These are beautiful. I read an article the other day about a lady who this skill has been passed down in her family forever. She said the eggs tell a story and have certain symbols. Thanks for posting this because I had been meaning to look it up.
