M$The lists given already are great and I love almost all of the restaurants on them. Specifically for steaks, there are some great choices. Austin has a Ruth's Chris, which if you've been there you'll know about the standard of meat they serve. For my money, however, the smoked sirloin at Texas Land and Cattle Co is the ultimate comfort food. The flavor, the tenderness, and the garlic mashed potatoes on the side are outstanding. Cool River Cafe serves an incredible steak, as does Perry's downtown on 7th just off Congress. I've been hearing great things about the newly opened Vince Young Steakhouse downtown. On the lake you have the Oasis, but don't expect a steak there. I had to think a little bit to determine where you get a good steak by either Lake Travis or Town Lake in downtown Austin. I think on the south side of the lake, the Hyatt has the best view and they serve a great steak as well. On the north side, the Four Seasons has a wonderful restaurant and, although I've never had their steak, I've never had anything there that wasn't absolutely world class.
