What are some tips to spruce up my home and garden?

Where can I find some inexpensive ideas to update my living space? Is there a website that offers advice on decorating my home on a budget?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are some very easy and economical ways to update the look of your home and garden.

The easiest and cheapest way to update the look of your gardens is to add a layer of fresh mulch. When you mulch, you want to pick one of the more expensive (expensive meaning about five dollars for a 20 pound bag) and well known brands. Scott’s makes some excellent ones. With mulch, you truly get what you pay for in that the more expensive brands are more likely to be free of termites and will resist fading longer.

It's also a good idea to add some fresh mulch to all of your existing beds. This is one of the cheapest and easiest things you can do to improve your current appeal for potential buyers. Fresh mulch goes a long way to make your lawn look well-maintained (well maintained {sic}) and attractive.

The easiest and cheapest way to update the look of your home is to paint the walls. Painting is the easiest way to change the look and feel of a room. To make the job go even faster, pick a paint that contains a primer if you want to paint the room a very different color from its original hue. I also recommend that you tape off any areas where you don’t want the paint to go. Taping off usually takes less than a couple of hours and is much easier than “cutting in” around every small detail.

But with a few thrifty decorating ideas, your home can look beautiful and you can stay on your budget…. Don't be afraid to paint the walls. Even if you are renting or leasing, usually you can paint as long as you agree to paint them back to the original color before you move out.

I found a wonderful web site devoted to providing good advice on decorating if you have a tight budget. You can view it here: http://christys-thriftydecorating.blogspot.com
