What are some tips for child proofing my home?

I would child proof the home as soon as the baby is able to sit on the floor by himself/herself.
For cabinets, there are locks that you can use that require you to push a small lever in order to open the cabinet. These work very well for babies and younger children.
They are also hidden from view because they are installed on the inside of the cabinet.
You also need to use special inserts to cover all unused electrical outlets. These prevent accidental shock from the child putting an object into the plug outlet.
Take a look around at anything that can easily be tipped over.
for example, if your tv is on a small stand that is a bit wobbly, you would want to get a bigger stand or secure the tv.
Blind and drapery cords can also be a choking hazard to babies and toddlers.
There are special adapters available to fix this issue for most blinds and drapes.
