What are some reasons for people disliking Nickelback?

I personally don’t mind Nickelback at all. Some songs are annoying, yes, but I ultimately love Chad Kroegers voice. They seemed HUGE when they started but now I keep hearing left and right that “Ugh Nickelback sucks’ and ‘That music isn’t allowed in my home”. Why is this? What changed? Is it the sound of the music, is it the lead singer? I feel Chad Kroeger is even better without his band, for example when he sang with the lead singer of Saliva, Josey Scott and when he sang with Timbaland and so on. Are you a fan? Why or why not? What attracts you to the band? What makes you despise them?

I used to listen Nickelback quite a bit when I was in high school. (like 3 years ago) And there were a lot of songs that I really liked. Such as Someday and Figured you Out, even though I don't really listen to their music anymore, I have never really disliked them.

But while doing research for your question I came across a stunning fact. According to wikipedia, Nickelback is one of the most criticized bands in recent history. This is what Wikipedia wrote.

QUOTE from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickelback

Nickelback are one of the most criticized bands in popular music history, despite their large fan-base. At various points in their career, Nickelback has received widespread negative reviews from various sources. Review aggregator Metacritic reports that three of their six most recent studio albums since becoming a mainstream act, The Long Road, All the Right Reasons and Dark Horse, have scores of 62%, 41% and 49% respectively.

So I delved in and tried to find why they are so unpopular despite their commercial success. What I found is that many people do not like Chad Kroeger's voice. Many claim that his voice sounds like a screeching moose, and many claim that listening to his music will cause one's ears to bleed. As this guy claims

QUOTE from http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/217430/no_music_to_my_ears_why_nickelback.html?cat=33

The first thing you'll notice when listening to a Nickelback song is that your ears have begun to bleed. That's because the singer of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger (who, it's fun to point out, has been arrested for driving drunk, though I'd tend to believe that it was a mistake since I doubt he can walk in a straight line or sound uninebriated in any circumstance), sings like a horse would sing, if someone tried to teach a horse English but then gave up after the horse learned a few basic vowels and consonants. "NEVERWHOWAAAASSSAAAAWAAAMAAAN", he exclaims, sounding as sincere as an insurance salesman. Every vowel is "a" or "o", and every rhyme is the first one-syllable word that appears in Webster's Rhyming Dictionary for 5th Grade Kids With ADD.

END QUOTE

Many have also criticized Nickelback from a professional point of view. Many view their albums as unspectacular, unimaginative, dull, and sullen. One of the main reasons that they are criticized is for their perceived lack of diversity. Many, even their fans, complain that all of Nickelback's songs are about the same theme. Some also dislike the fact that Nickelback's songs sound have a sullen, depressing feel to it, many have also claimed that their lyrics are horrible, hastily written and vulgar.

Also, a few Americans and Europeans dislike Nickelback because they are Canadian. It may sound like a dumb reason but it is out there.

Personally I do not really love Nickelback nor do I really hate their music now, even though I still like a few of their songs.
