There's a GREAT technique called a "Vertical Descent" or "Downward Arrow" that is very cognitive and used by Cognitive Therapists... I won't go into detail, but you can probably find more information about it on-line.

M$My professional opinion is that practice/"desensitization" should come AFTER you do some cognitive work. You run the risk of compounding the problem if you continue to practice "bad thinking".
I think that, after you do some work around the irrational thoughts you're having in a social situation, then you can start practicing by doing...
