What are some places to see when I visit Chicago?

1. Magnificent Mile – Any trip to Chicago would not be complete without spending at least some time on the Mag Mile. Even if you don’t enjoy shopping, it’s worth a trip up and down Michigan Avenue.
2. Signature Room Lounge in the Hancock Tower – Without a doubt the Sears Tower (now the Willis Tower) is more famous, but I like the Signature Room Lounge for two reasons:
a. When you are in the Signature Room, I think the overall views of the city are better and you can get pictures of the Chicago skyline that include the Sears Tower.
b. A trip to the Signature Room Lounge is “free” but you have to buy a drink. So, at the Hancock you get a drink and a view for $10 where at the Sears Tower you just get the view.
Note: One counter to this – the Skydeck at the Sears Tower is pretty awesome. Being able to walk out and look down 100+ stories is a unique experience, but I still like the Hancock better.
3. Second City – The famous improv comedy club the produced SNL Alumni like John Beluschi and Chris Farley is worth a trip. It’s definitely not PG material, but it is worth a trip. Pair it with a trip to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders on the north side of the city and you won’t be disappointed.
4. Chicago Architecture Tour – these leave from the intersection of Wacker and Michigan Ave and are a great way to see the city. If you are huge architecture buff, take the “official” architecture tour. Otherwise, I would recommend any of a number of others that run tours that tend to give a “lighter” history of the architecture and are usually a little more entertaining.
5. Grant Park/Millennium Park – I think a great day in Chicago could start at Millennium Park and head north along Michigan Avenue, stop for the architecture tour and finish with a cocktail at the Signature Room Lounge.
