What are some of your favorite online food and recipe sites?

OK, I've reluctantly had to put an end to my cookbook buying compulsion. Enough is enough. Way too expensive, plus how many cookbooks is it reasonable for one person to own before the person's house becomes too small to hold them all?

However, there is always room to investigate new recipes, fresh ingredients & new approaches to cooking, I say! I've been doing quite a bit of this on the internet lately, though my Google searches tend to often lead to the same sites. Now I'm looking for new, uncharted territory!

So, would you like to share your very favorite cooking sites here? Supply a link & perhaps tell us a little about why this site has been particularly useful to you.

I don't mind what type of food sites you choose to recommend: anything from ethnic foods, vegetarian foods, sites about specific ingredients, basic beginner sites, "celebrity chefs" ..... just what ever you've found really useful. And, of course, you don't have to restrict your contribution to just one site if there are a number you regularly use. The more the merrier!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My husband has literally an entire bookshelf of cookbooks however I only use them if I don't know what to make and want to choose by pretty pictures, he and I both go to epicurious.com if we know what we want to make and want an awesome recipe and lots of variants to choose from.

It's by far my favorite as it even goes beyond a recipe site not only do they have everything under the sun but they also have instruction guides and videos, recipe boxes, "shopping lists" that give you recipes based off items you buy or tells you what to buy for what you want to make, wine pairings, seasonal recipes that play on seasonal foods, mobile apps, and even a food dictionary.

My most favorite recipe site is Allrecipes.com. I love the way the site is being presented, its format, colors and images. In allrecipes.com, people give reviews that are very useful in improving the recipes. People who have tried making the published recipes there also rate them and I find it very important esp. when deciding if to make those recipes or not. And I guess all want the help of the photos. Like me, I love to find recipes that have pictures with them and Allrecipes.com has it. It gives me an idea how to arrange the food in a way that it can attract guests to eat the food. Like now, I’m going to make moist, chocolate brownies for the upcoming birthday of my little daughter and Allrecipes.com has it. 5 stars to Allrecipes.com! Btw, this site is no. 1 among the “Top 10 Best Recipe Websites” which you can find at: http://gomestic.com/cooking/top-10-best-recipe-websites/

The best thing about allrecipes is that they have user ratings and reviews. So others have already tried it for you.

I know how you feel. I have at least 4 cook books, that only get opened a couple times a year. So I had to stop myself as well. I also have two bread books that I have only tried two recipes from.

http://www.asianonlinerecipe.com/ has great asian recipes. Some of the recipes do need a bit of interpretation, but it's not so far gone that you won't be able to complete the recipes.

http://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/ is great as well. The great thing about this site, is that the recipes have been tested time and time again, to produce the 'best', to their taste of course, recipes. We actually own one of the cook books (got as a gift, so no guilt at all), and I have yet to be dissapointed by any of the recipes that come out of the cook book.

I have two for you.

#1 is AllRecipes
http://allrecipes.com/
This site has a massive database that is very useful for finding specific recipes. It has a unique feature that I love that allows you to search by ingredient, it also allows you to remove specific ingredients. This feature allows me to say I would like a dish with garlic but exclude mango and fish foods that my wife and I are allergic to. Exploring recipes with this feature has allowed us to find lots of interesting foods we would not have tried otherwise.

#2 Vegan Yum Yum
http://veganyumyum.com/
For the record I am not vegan, and even if you are not I encourage you to visit this site. It has a selection of very healthy yummy foods.

I like Allrecipes.com a lot, as well, but it seems I always end up using a recipe from Cooks.com. I always find the recipes easy to follow and understand. I have used recipes from cooks.com for vegetables, zucchini and banana bread, different varieties of fish and meats, as well as casseroles and soups. I like the way the site is set up. It makes it very easy to find recipes for particular ingredients, and they always give a list of related recipes. They also give users the opportunity to rate the particular recipe with comments. I have found some handy tips in the comment section that helps determine what I add or detract from the original recipe.

Another feature that I like is the ability to find recipes based on the ingredients that I have on hand. The search bar allows you to put in a particular request, like "cheesecakes", or you can request a recipe that has pineapples, cream cheese, and vanilla pudding (or whatever you have to work with). That's fun especially if you really don't have anything in particular in mind.

I use other recipe sites for certain recipes, like a particular cajun dish, or any other ethnic recipe, but if I'm just browsing for something to make, I check cooks.com first.
