Traditions in my area are that we have Christmas dinner with family on December 24th Eve. We traditionally eat stuffed turkey but nowadays, we eat more or less anything we would like: start dinner with whether oysters or lobster ; entrance can be whether fish (salmon or any other kind of fish), Saint-Jacques shells, or any other kind of sea fruits ; dinner can be lamb, roastbeef, generally we eat potato croquettes as most of our meals are made out of sauced meat. Dessert: chocolate Christmas log whether cake or iced.

At Midnight, we distribute the gifts. However, in the past, kids only got clothes or books as Christmas gifts because we have another holiday only reserved to children: Saint-Nicholas on December 6th.

Nowadays mass commercialism changed the things and kids also get toys for Christmas in addition to Saint-Nicholas.

We generally visit the family on December 25th - those that weren't there on December 24th.

As for some other parts of my country, Christmas isn't celebrated at all although they decorate the home; they only celebrate New Year as it's the most important date to them - this normally applies to the Ardens.

I don't celebrate the holiday, but I do, every year, drink some Christmas Ales. Some brewers produce Winter Warmers, Holiday Beers, or simply Barley Wines for the season. But some brewers produce Christmas Ales, and I drink them. One such is from the Louisiana brewery Abita. Another is from the particularly excellent California brewer Anchor.

Jews in general don't celebrate Christmas traditions, but there is one from New York City that might interest you. It is being continued by some Jews in New Orleans. That is going out for dinner Christmas Eve at a Chinese Restaurant. There is a long story to the affinity for Jewish folks in NYC for Chinese food, but this tradition in particular seems to have sprung from the Chinese restaurants being the only ones open on Christmas Eve.

Here in the Philippines we have a lot of Christmas traditions, foremost of which is the traditional 9 day dawn Catholic masses which culminates on Christmas eve. Filipinos believe that by completing the nine day mass, wishes will be granted. Another Filipino Christmas tradition is the Midnight dinner on Christmas eve often called as "Noche Buena" in Spanish, families gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the most famous tradition practiced by Children, are the visits made by Godchildren to their Godfather and Godmother to receive their Christmas Gifts.

When I was a kid, my mom made clam chowder for Chistmas Eve dinner every year, with home-canned razor clams that we had dug. I've always hated clams, so my little sister and I usually had mac and cheese. Then we drove around and looked at Christmas lights for a while before coming back and opening presents. The next day, we got our "Santa" present, had breakfast, and then went to my grandpa's house to see all the extended family.

My grandfather has since passed away, and of course we've grown up. We're not always all together anymore for the holidays, but we do still look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. I love Christmas lights, probably because of that. That is definitely a tradition I will carry on with my own kids.

Honestly though, I think our best "tradition" is that we were always nice to each other that day. My family could fight a lot, yell a lot, and just generally "pick at" each other quite a bit. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, that just didn't really happen. It was sort of a family-wide truce. I liked that the best.

It's been awhile for me having a traditional Christmas since it's been about 10 years since I moved out of my parents home, but when I was younger we had the fun tradition of ordering pizza on Christmas Eve - We didn't order pizza that much throughout the year so the Christmas Eve pizza was always fun, we also got to open 1 present on Christmas eve.

For Christmas dinner we always had a Ham (since we have Turkey on Thanksgiving) and my Mom would always BBQ it, which was always interesting since it's usually cold and snowy on Christmas.

We order pizza on Christmas Eve and have ham for Christmas dinner also. We don't usually BBQ it I cook it in the oven but this year we are smoking it which will be interesting. It's going to be 20 degrees and maybe snowing. Another time honored tradition is the guys will be in the living room watching football with beer and the ladies will be in the kitchen with the wine. :)

It's summer. We have a white cat with very long fur, a good three inches long, very very fluffy!
It's hot. He gets uncomfortable.
He's deaf, he can't hear a thing.
He's quiet but can get feisty and excited.
He's big and dumb.
I've set the scene.

Each year around Christmas we shave the cat. We clear the back table, plug in the shaver and away we go. He doesn't mind, he can't hear the buzz, he FEELS the buzz and its like being patted I guess, he rubs against the clippers and rolls around a bit.
One year we shaved him, well, I shaved him. I did it alone. I thought I could do it but I couldn't. I failed. He suffered for months later.
Suddenly, he was loving the buzz so much that I clipped his whiskers on one side. I couldn't believe it, back to the neat little side fur! All gone. He's not my cat, he's my partner's cat.
I waited for him to settle down, I held him a little tighter, I clipped around his neck, he arched into me and I clipped off the whiskers on the other side of his face. Gone! Instantly! He was still rubbing against me, wondering why I had frozen solid.
I finished the clipping, I cleaned up.
Every time he fell off the ironing board, or the corner of the lounge, I tried not to blame my self .... but since then it's always been a team effort, and any under cutting or accidental loss of fur is par for the course....

This isn't a picture of our cat, but its very close :)

I was not celebrating Christmas till a couple of years before. Now a days, I usually give some gifts for people in my life. Also, my small family make a special lunch for Christmas day. We make lamb or beef with vegetables on the side. We will bake a nice cake. Sparkling wine or red wine to go with it.
Before eating this special lunch, we will usually say thanks to the power of the universe for the blessings we receive.
It is a special tradition for us.

In my family, a lot of our traditions involve Christmas Eve. For example, we always open all of our gifts Christmas Eve night. We gather at my grandfather's house to celebrate with family and exchange gifts, and then we go back home to exchange gifts with the immediate family. I am not sure how this tradition started, but we have been doing it since I was a small child. I never questioned why Santa seemed to visit our house about 12hrs earlier than everyone else I knew. I guess I just thought I was special. lol So, I will be at my parents house tonight to open gifts. It will work out well when I have kids. They will go to grandma and grandpa's to get presents on Christmas Eve, and then get Santa's gifts Christmas morning. On Christmas Day, we always have a big family dinner and exchange gifts with family members we did not see on Christmas Eve.
