What are some of the most memorable Hockey fights?
I have never been much of a hockey fan but when I was younger and used to hang out with my mother when she worked at an ice arena we used to watch the hockey games and I was always interested in the fights. So this has led me to wonder what some of the most memorable fights in Hockey history are. Which teams or players were involved? What led to the fight was it sporadic?

Without a doubt it was the 1997 brawl between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red wings. This was a fight in retribution for a cheap shot that Claude Lemieux had put on Detroit’s Kris Draper the previous year. Draper’s face was fractured and he was out for the season after being checked into the boards. If you watch the video you will even see non-fighter Igor Larionov pair off against Peter Frosberg, goalies Patrick Roy and Mike Vernon square off after Brendan Shanahan does a flying tackle on Roy as he comes to defend Lemieux who is being pummeled by Detroit’s Darren McCarty. Lemieux eventually is helped off the ice by the referees. This fight is part of long running feud between the Avalanche and Wings. It is bloody and involves just about everyone on the ice. I have seen many fights, but this one definitely is the wildest and one of the longest I can remember, and I have been watching Hockey for almost 55 years.
