geni.com is pretty cool and free, I know Calacanis is a fan of it as well I found out about it listing to him on TWiT.

We use Ancestry.com. They offer a DNA testing service, but I have never used it.

ancestory.com is great but most of the information is through purchased services. Familysearch.org is great place to start much of the work has already been done for you if you are lucky enough to find your family there. Anything I find there I do research to prove it. It is righ tfor the most part found a fwe children in the wrong families and sometime they stop after finding just one of many children belonging to a couple. With genealogy I take nothing at face value, always look for the proof. Census, court documents etc. If you know the county and state for some of your ancestors you can type that for your search and they may have a geneology site. Virginia is a great state for geneology sites based on counties. Good luck!
