What are some of the best goat meat recipes?

My little daughter is turning three this month, yay! And some of the recipes that I am going to prepare are of the goat meat. I have loved the goat meat now since I had tasted it four years ago. Can you give some really yummy goat meat recipes?

Well, ai-ai. This is a very interesting question. I have never eaten goat meat. In fact, I don't think I even know anyone who has eaten it. There isn't a goat section in the meat department at Kroger's. It's certainly not because I'm a food snob, because I'll try pretty much anything but I have never had the opportunity to try it. That being said, if someone gave me some goat meat, I'd have to try to find a recipe.

If it were ground meat, I would probably use it in chili or stew. But I found this recipe in Americangrassfed.com for leg of goat, that I would probably use if the occasion arose:

"Roasted Leg of Goat

AGA Executive Director & Certified Chef Carrie Balkcom

3/4 cup white wine or cider vinegar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf, crumbled
2 teaspoons coarse salt

1 tsp white pepper
3 teaspoons fresh chopped rosemary
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 (5- to 7-pound) leg of grassfed goat

3 large potatoes, quartered
3 onions, quartered

3 large chiles or peppers, seeded and sliced
2 garlic clovers, skin removed

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Combine vinegar, oil and seasonings and pour over goat meat in a glass baking dish. Cover and marinate in refrigerator 12 to 24 hours, turning often.

Remove goat, strain marinade and reserve. Place potatoes, onion, chile’s and garlic in shallow roasting pan and pour 1/4 cup marinade over vegetables. Place goat on roasting rack over vegetables. Pour 1/4 cup marinade over goat. Roast for approximately 20 minutes per pound.

Makes 8 to 10 servings."

Hey @ai-ai, I have been eating goat meat since I turned five and I love it too. I use it for many recipes, but here is one easy one you might want to try out.

*Jamaican Curry Goat

Ingredients

2 pounds goat meat
2 onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 hot pepper, seeded and chopped (you can use half of the pepper if kids are going to eat it).
2 tablespoons curry powder
3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
2 cups water
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste

Directions

*Cut the meat into bitable pieces.

*In a reseal-able bag, Combine the meat with the garlic, onions, curry powder, hot pepper, salt and black pepper and keep in the fridge for about 1 hour.

*Next, Heat up the oil over medium heat in a skillet and brown the meat and the vegetables until cooked evenly.

*Now add the water to the meat, cover, and let it simmer for 1 hour. Taste frequently and Add more seasonings and water if necessary. Cook for another 20-25 until the meat is tender.

*Serve with fried plantains, chutneys or over white rice.

I found a nice goat recipe from Keith Famie on the Food Network. The recipe is rated as intermediete in difficulty to execute. Cooking time is 1 hour and 15 minutes and total time including prep is about 2 hours. This is a curried goat recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup curry powder
3 large sprigs thyme
3 scotch bonnet peppers, finely chopped
2 onions, diced
1 bunch scallions, diced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 pounds goat meat, bone in
1/2 cup chopped fresh garlic
1 carrot, diced
2 tomatoes, diced
1 pound potatoes, diced
1/2 cup chopped ginger
3 quarts chicken stock

Directions:
To make the marinade, combine the curry, thyme, scotch bonnets, onions, scallions, salt, and pepper. Marinate the goat meat overnight.

Remove the goat meat from the marinade. Reserve leftover marinade.

In a hot braising pan, brown the goat meat and garlic. Add carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, ginger, and reserved marinade. Add stock and stew for approximately 1 hour until meat is tender or about to fall off the bone.

Hello. There are two ways I prepare goat meat. As goat meat is similar to lamb, I roast it most of the time. You should make sure the goat meat is from a younger goat, as it is tougher than lamb meat. So I just prepare it the same as roast lamb, with rosemary, a few cloves of garlic, salt pepper, rub with oil. Depending on which position you are roasting( The leg needs a bit more time) I usually use the shoulder. or the rib cuts. Can't give you the time to roast, as would need to know the amount and size etc. But if you are comparing to roast lamb times, it should be cooked at least 1/2 hour longer. I cook mine at 190c. We also make goat on the spit for special occasions. The other way I cook goat, is boiled, and make a nice soup.I really don't have any fancy recipes, as I cook mainly from scratch.
