What are some musical instruments that children can make at home?

My son had a music class in school and one day they made musical instruments. He didn’t get to bring his home, but he really enjoyed making those. He described some to me, but I haven’t got a clue. I want to do this project with him at home. What are some simply, yet fun musical instruments we can make from items around the house?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

These are some instruments that children can make at home:

1.) Bean Shakers
You are going to need:
Soda bottle
Dried peas, beans or lentils
Superglue

Here's how
1. Clean the bottle thoroughly and allow it to dry completely
2. Place some peas, bean, or lentils inside the bottle for about 1/8 to 1/4.
3. Put superglue around the threads of the opening of the bottle and tighten fast the lid and allow the glue to dry before playing the shaker.

2.) Cork Drumsticks
You will need:
2 pieces of cork that is cylindrical about 1 1/2 inches long
2 bamboo chopsticks or wooden chopsticks
Glue

Here's how:
1. Using a sharp pencil, make a hole in the center of one side of each cork.
2. Finish the hole using one of the chop sticks
3. Put a glue on the hole and insert the chop sticks allowing it to dry before use.

3.) Comb Harmonica
You are going to need:
A clean comb
Thin paper

Here's how:
1. Cover or wrap the paper around the teeth of the comb.
2. Put the comb against the lips and hum to play.
