Thornton Wilder’s Our Town is a perennial favorite that is also a low cost production. Like many schools across the country, you school may be facing drastic budget cuts. As such, the recommendations relate to this situation. Another excellent and low cost production is Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing. It is a good play with a timeless theme of how people waste time. Consider also trying modern classics such as Suzie Lori Park’s Topdog/Underdog. The play itself can be formatted to suit your student body drama club and only involves a few characters. Proof is another good production that also does not cost a great deal of money to put on. If the drama club is daring enough, you can also create your own modified version of other famous plays or musicals that involve dancing that tell a theme about humanity.
