Confidence is what will make or break the whole thing. I was fairly shy as a freshman but that summer I decided I'd become more confident. How? I faked it. I just PRETENDED to be confident and guess what happened by sophomore year? I was one popular SOB. After a few months of pretending, it simply stuck with me and helped me become the smooth talker I am today (I really am in person :D).

Avoid romantic bullcrap that you've seen in every teen movie made. It's all about walking up with a great attitude and saying "You know what? I've had a crush on you since X. I think you should know that and I'd like to you to be my prom date."

You also need to know where you stand on the "ick" factor. I don't mean this in a bad way but if you are an emo or scene guy and you want to ask out a cheerleader, befriend the "ugly" cheerleader or the fat friend right now and get some information first. It's not worth the effort if they already have a date or simply don't know who you are anyway.

Always have a backup girl or two. Don't EVER EVER tell them they were your second choice and pray to GOD they don't find out before prom either. If they do find out, jokingly say that first girl was just a dare and was funny.

Remember to aim for what you can get. If your best friend is your mom, ask out that shy girl in Spanish class who eats alone at lunch. She's dateless. If you are mid-low popular, shoot for the same status in a girl. If you have some sort of physical debilitation (severe acne, reputation for something stupid), you might be in love with a super hot girl, you're out of luck my friend and the sooner you realize it, the less heartache you have to suffer through in life.

You know the best person for you? You know that one girl who's really cool to hang around, seems to be interested in everything you are, and is always there for you even though you've never thought about dating her? She loves you.

THAT'S THE ONE!

For a guy who's a little bit shy to pop the important question, I think he can either use the internet to speak his mind, or go the paper route and write up a nice card ( I think he should buy a blank card) to the girl. Have someone pass the card onto her.

Now, back to the internet method. If the girl has a social networking profile, I wold say that he friend her and ask her out there.

I would say, "Never ask a girl you don't know." Not only will you have more fun going to prom with an existing friend, but there is a greater chance of it turning into a serious relationship. At my high school, many of the guys were looking for girls they could take to prom that would give them a "memorable" night. Meaning, too much alcohol and unprotected sex.

Prom is the last social event of your high school experience. There will be plenty of opportunities to do stupid things after high school or in college. Therefore I recommend going to prom with someone you know or someone your friends have introduced you to. It's the perfect opportunity to do something fun and possibly develop a long term relationship.

Extraordinary ways or unique ways in asking a girl to a prom could be effective. This get the girl's attention immediately and would get the girl's "Yes" with no second thoughts.

Here are some tips on how to ask a girl to a prom effectively and creatively:

1. Have a Personal Ad and publish it. Be sure to use first names: Ex. "Jenny, I'd love if you would be my date for the prom. It would mean the world to me if you say "Yes."

2. Do the windshield approach by putting your heart on your sleeve, that is if you are not afraid or embarrassed about it. Write your invitation on your car's rear windshield with white shoe polish.
Example: "Joann, you make my heart skip a beat, will you be my date for prom?"

3. Purchase big Hershey's Kisses and print your invitation on a strip of paper which is inserted into the foil at the top. Put it on the walk in her front yard and ring the doorbell. When she comes out, point to her the package and ask her to open it. Example of your message: "Julia, I'd kiss the ground you walked on if you say "Yes" and go with me to the prom- John".

4. Place a not into a stuffed animal
Example: If you give her a stuffed rabbit tuck a note on it that says: "LeAnn, Nobuuny else will do. Make my dream come true and go to the prom with me."

5. If your potential date has a good sense of humor you can use the "remote approach". Write your thoughts on a card, seal it in an envelope with her name on it and tape it to the top of a remote control car. Go to
school early when she's hanging out on her locker and try to keep a distance out of direct view from her. Send the car over to her and watch her open your card. Write something clever like "Is there a remote chance you will be my date to the prom?" - John

Additional Tips:
1. Never ask the last minute because it would take time to shop for shoes and dress. This is considered a lifetime moment for a girl so give her enough time to savor the ritual.

2. In majority of the cases, it would be better to ask a girl in private unless you are really sure she is interested to come to the prom with you.

3. In whatever approach you decide to ask her, just make sure that you are comfortable with the method you use. If you have doubts and feel awkward she can easily sense it and a girl like guys who exudes confidence.

4. But on the other hand don't act too confident. Girls don't like it if guys will think she's a sure thing and easy to get. Be a little humble and she is sure to take you seriously.
