What are some HD video cameras that are under $300?

I want a video camera for my birthday and my father gave me a price limit and told me to figure out what I want. Can I get some help? I want to be able to shoot in at least 720P, be expandable with some an SD card or some other form of digital media, and be nice and small so I can carry it anywhere. An optical zoom would be a plus, but isn't necessary. Thanks for your help.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I currently own the Kodac zi6. It's a HD pocket camcorder that's under 200$!
Not only does it record at 720p resolution, but it also has a built in program that allows you to upload directly to youTube. The expandable storage allows you to use SD and SDHC (high capacity cards) up to 32GB's! But there is only an 8x DIGITAL zoom.

i tested this and a flip mino HD, the insignia HD and the creative Vado HD and this one took the cake.

Even though kenman said it was optional, I'd like to comment that an optical zoom is a big deal. There is a great improvement in flexibility and quality of photography with an optical zoom.

I am familiar with that camera, and the flip camera as well. I might end up with this one, but I wanted to see if their were any other noteworthy cameras out there.

The Flip wins on fantastic UI and design, but I think, from a strictly functional perspective, the Vado is the best at the moment.

@kenman345 This is just a new model in the Xacti line, which has been around for awhile. It doesn't have a predecessor, per se, but it combines a lot of the features of other xacti models into one camera.

My B-day is April 19th, so it would work out fine, but I would really love a more tried and tested camera. Do you know if this has a predecessor?
