What are some great easy ways to help get back in shape after pregnancy?

The best I have heard is breast feeding. Breast feeding helps the uterus contract and get back to its original shape.
Although some of us women have issues breastfeeding (some of us cant even if we want to), there are other things to do.
First thing - you need to make sure that you support your wife. Be her support system. Give her confidence that she may have lost. Tell her she looks good . If she does a weekly weigh in, and it shows that she hasnt lost weight, or worse, gained weight. Tell her how you think she looks good, and it looks like she lost weight. This is probably the most important thing to remember.
Get the OK from the doctor first at the follow up. Make sure that everything is OK and that she can start working out again. Vaginal birth mothers can start working out around 4-6wks, while c-sections have to wait longer, about 8 weeks.
Set a realistic goal for yourself.
Don't eat the comfort foods you ate while pregnant - chances are they arent very healthy.
You could hire a trainer -and let the trainer know the goals set. Let the trainer know the areas you want to work on the most, what size you were before, what you want to get back to, etc... They would know the best workout routines for you.
Go to a mommy and me type workout class (or buy a dvd and do it at home). Use the baby as a weight. Its a good way to interact with the baby too.
Pilates, and yoga are options too.
There are some links below to check out with more info.... Each site has info the other doesn't. Good Luck! And again, Congrats!

M$Walking to the shops, around to friends, shopping
Walking to admire the local gardens
Did I mention walking :)
Walking is low impact, it helps with toning and rebuilding and you can do this every day without changing your life with young kids. A walk every afternoon is good to calm everyone down, to get some exercise and to be healthy.
Next best thing is swimming. Again, low impact on back and bones but good for rebulding overall health and fitness. On the spot running in the pool is great for cardio etc :)
Being fit is being able to walk and talk to all hours fo the day. Housework, walking, swimming, riding a bike every now and then will get anyone into shape and healthy!

M$I agree. Walking is a fantastic, low impact way for anyone to get back into shape. Being a new mother certainly keeps you on your toes, and having two young children to look out for only adds to the number of things that a parent has to accomplish in the course of one day, but stress relief and a break away from home is also important for new mommies. Taking a walk with the young ones or alone in the evenings when things have quieted down or there is someone else home to provide some relief is very relaxing.

Thank you for mentioning the physical benefits of breast feeding for new mommies. I think this is one aspect of breastfeeding that is often overlooked. I am also a big fan of Pilates, and it is a great way to not only relax and destress, but also increase physical strength, mental focus, and get in shape. I think Pilates and yoga are great options for new moms.
