What are some great book titles to include in a summer reading list for a soon-to-be 7th grader?
My son will be entering 7th grade in the fall and we are planning to create a reading list for him to tackle over the summer. He has visited the library recently and picked out a number of titles that appealed to him, but I am worried that his book choices may have been a bit one-sided. Which books would you want your 7th grader to read over the summer? What are some must-reads for 11 - 13 year olds?

These books will be great for 11-13 year old:
1. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine - The author examines the traditional female roles in fairy tales and created some twists and deviations from the original. The main character Ells is bound by obedience against her will and take matters in her own hand with ambition and verve. This story has won many awards including a Newbery Honor.
2.Charlie Bone and the Time Twister - This is a story about a young Charlie who discovers new dimensions to his magical talents while helping an age-mate who drops from thin air at wizardly Bloor Academy. This story is similar to Harry Potter and there's even a hidden chamber and a miraculous bird flying to the rescue. It also has some ingenious features of its own including a cafe that admits only customers with pets and such oddball magics.
3. Island of the Aunts by Eva Ibbotson - the story is about three aging aunts who need help caring for their magical animals and resort to kidnapping suitable candidates.
