What should I do if my girlfriend says she doesn't want to celebrate Valentine's Day? What are some gift ideas for the first Valentine's Day?

Valentine’s Day is a tough day to make special because there is so much build up, and many people, perhaps your girlfriend, decide not to celebrate because nothing can live up to the build up of the day. This is hardest on the guys, unfortunately. If your girlfriend doesn’t want to go out, then you can make her a great dinner at home. Depending on how much knowledge you have as cook, you can prepare her a dinner. Find out what she likes and learn how to cook it. Follow it up with a decadent dessert, something with whipped cream can be a lot of fun. You can do a whole theme, such as fondue, which is a really intimate style as you can feed one another. Throw pillows on the floor and sit down and have dinner on your coffee table, lots of candles, romantic music. It’s not cheesy, it’s romantic and although you’re not leaving home, you are making your home a more romantic place.

As far as gifts go, that depends on your budget. I find that a sincere gift is always best and if she is not the Valentine’s Day type, then a stuffed animal or something like that probably does not suit her. If she collects something, then I would see if I could get her something to add to her collection. I think your goal here is to celebrate Valentine’s Day without all of the Valentine’s accoutrement’ so you might want to have flowers on the table when you dine, but she may not appreciate you sending her flowers. If it’s your first Valentine’s you want to stay away from jewelry, but still stay romantic. Perhaps a nice silk robe or pair of pajamas?

First, if you're really interested in celebrating Valentine's day, i would really get into the whole celebration. Make it a huge ordeal, a big production. Start as soon as she wakes up, maybe with her favorite breakfast in bed, then a small gift. Take her to lunch to her favorite place and maybe another small gift. Then i'd go do something fun, she hasn't gotten to do. Maybe see a movie, or go to an art gallery. Something out of the ordinary, then another small gift. Take her to dinner or make it yourself and then give her something substantial.
i would just looking online for gift ideas. Here's a good site for ideas.
