If the baby is fairly imminent, and it's his first, it's probably going to rather an anxious time as well as an exciting one, and giving them a Father's Day gift might feel too much like counting your chickens before they hatch.
If you did go ahead and get them a gift, I would be inclined to go for something both practical and humorous. For example, a Starbucks gift card to help counter-act the lack of sleep that will soon be coming his way. :)

My son is almost six years old and I still wear the plain baby-blue shirt I'd designated as my "It's a Boy" shirt when he was born. (I had a pink one, too, just in case.)
