What are some good butt exercises other than squats and lunges?

There are a group of women who walk backward up a hill in town every day. They said it was good for the butt. I tried it out and made it about 50 yards before my butt felt like it was on fire and falling off. It worked well for them, but I it is tougher than it looks.

If I were you, and especially if you are preparing for a sport, I would run wind sprints with a weighted vest and/or a resistance parachute. It tones your butt and all down your legs. We did it all the time in high school football practice, and it worked wonders for our athleticism.
