What are some fun things to do on a Saturday night that will get the kids out of the house?

I need some sort of activity that gets our family out of the house for the night without going out to dinner, bowling or a movie theater. It doesn't have to be outside just out of the house. Any ideas?

How about

Miniature Golf or do you have a roller skating rink in town if not how about ice skating.

how about instead of a Movie theater taking the kids to live theater most communities have some kind of community theaters.

Check you local library they sometimes have programs for kids on Saturday night.

If you live in a bigger city a lot of arts and craft stores have different types of craft classes that can be taken.

or find out what your city offers, you can go to your city hall and find out what activities are available. There may be places and events that you weren't aware of. Explore your town, or research online for attractions around you, and then make a list of things to do that are unique to your hometown.

One of the best thing ask the kids what they would like to do each get a turn on Saturday night to pick the activity they would most like to do.

For a new appreciation of culture, I'd look at local high school plays and community theater. Often cheaper then a movie, it also gives the family a chance to mingle with the community

Now that it's staying light later, it's becoming a good time for picnic dinners in a park. You could follow that with a twilight hike, if there are good hiking trails near you. Dusk is a great time to see wildlife like rabbits, foxes, and deer (at least it is where I live).

Are you close to an observatory, or do you have access to a small telescope and a place away from city lights? I am night blind and can't do this, but I have friends that love to set up their telescopes and do some sky gazing with their kids. Here's a site with some reasonable introductory info: http://www.nightskyinfo.com/

That's just off the top of my head.

Arcades are fun. Is there a Fun Factory nearby? And play with them. I realize that it is noisy and inane, but smaller kids love to have their parents play with them. There are dance games that require some exercise, so that is good. You can eat some pizza.
The miniature golf idea from vbelladonnav is great. Some places have go-carts which are a lot of fun. Minor league baseball is fun, and a lot cheaper. How about rock wall climbing? Is there anywhere that you can swim indoors in a heated pool?

If you live in the right part of the world, catching lighting bugs in a mason jar can be a good time killer. Though it's advisable to use a catch-and-release policy both for environmental reasons as well as for not having to deal with jars of deceased insects.
