1. Deli Meat: this should be avoided because it is known to be contaminated with listeria that can cause miscarriage. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and can infect the baby causing blood poisoning that is life-threatening.
2. Fish that contain high levels of mercury for mercury can cause delay in development and brain damage.
3. Smoked seafood that are refrigerated and labeled as lox, nova style, kippered, or jerky should be avoid. They can be contaminated with Listeria. However, canned or shelf-safe smoked seafood is usually safe to eat.
