What are some awesome movie soundtracks?

When I end up loving a movie, I often realize that a big reason is because of the incredible soundtrack. My top 2 are probably from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Bourne Trilogy. What are some other good soundtracks I should listen to?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

For original scores I suggest anything by Hans Zimmer...He is AWESOME!

I am a HUGE Hans Zimmer fan but my favorite by him is the sound track for Black Hawk Down, which also happens to be one of my favorite movies. The music gives me a special feeling, it relaxing with a bit of sadness.

All of these by Zimmer is great

The Holiday (2006) another Hanz Zimmer
Days of Thunder (this is a good balance of songs) I love all of these. I've had this cd forever.
Cocktail
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Rush (all by Eric Clapton)

Pump of the Volume has an awesome soundtrack. Which includes one of my favorites, Wave of Mutilation by The Pixies, the great surf version. It also has Everybody Know, which I love. There are many other great songs on this soundtrack that is underrated.

Other great soundtracks that are more mainstream:

Footloose
The Doors
Coal Miner's Daughter
Wayne's World
American Graffiti

Ok, I am not making all of this up. I have almost all of this music in my windows media player.

I do have to say for mainstream the best soundtrack is not a movie but a video game:

Grand Theft Auto Vice City.. it rules with those 80s tunes I love. I have this box set!

It must be awesome because I put the soundtrack into any video game I play like Oblivion, Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, and more.

Conan The Barbarian

I think the most interesting original movie score has to be The Firm.

Another powerful film score is Blade Runner, by Vangelis.

In terms of soundtracks that are collections of songs (vs. "film scores"), but still original, I love:
The Commitments
Purple Rain
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Runaways

Can't figure out how to get the videos correctly interspersed. Oh well...here they are:

Ya, I have to admit, you can hate on Twilight/New Moon all you want, but they have great soundtracks. Death Cab, Muse, Paramore, The Killers, Thom Yorke, Lykke Li, Band of Skulls, Iron and Wine, Editors, Ok Go ..... Some really great stuff.

If you're including non-orchestra music in movie, i must say "Supermassive black hole" in Twilight (even though i don't like twilight) is a really good choice. / Tense! lol
