What are some awesome hip-hop or rap songs I can cover at my high school's last rally?

Here's the situation. My high school has an end of the year rally every year. I really want to perform a hip hop or rap song, but I'm not sure what song to pick. So hopefully you can help, here's the criteria:

1) The song is recent: Ideally only a year or 2 old. Try to keep it within the last 4 years. But if you have an AMAZING song that is older than that, it's okay to share that as a bonus.
2) Popular song. Partially because I want (hopefully) for the audience to recognize it and sing along, and also because it's really hard to find the instrumentals to songs that aren't well known.
3) Somewhat upbeat. It's almost summer so people are really excited, the energy is palpable. It's not the venue for a slow song (even if it's great).
Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Swagger Like Us! It's contemporary and everyone can easily sing the chorus (plus a lot of people will probably know it)

Stronger by Kanye West. Not only was it a extremely popular song last year that most everyone will know, but it also has a positive message and great beat. Win-win!

Good point @mrnemo
A great choice but also I could not sing the chorus so it would just be the cd playing

I've seen Kanye perform this live, and the energy was incredible. Plus, it does have a great chorus that people can sing along to!
Now that that don't kill me
Can only make me stronger
I need you to hurry up now
Cause I can't wait much longer
I know I got to be right now
Cause I can't get much wronger
Man I've been waitin' all night now
That's how long I've been on ya

I play this song professionally in a band, and it rarely, rarely gets any feedback from the audience. We stopped playing it recently because it was just dead weight. We were playing it in many types of situations, from clubs to weddings. It may be OK for this situation, but the only thing they can really sing along with is "I need you right now." It doesn't really have a strong chorus. Just my opinion. There is nothing exciting about the song. The minor walk down is kind of a downer. I will say that if you are going for a "message" it could work at this angle.

I am in a hip hop band that plays professionally at large clubs, weddings, corporate events, whatever.

There are some songs that work, and some songs that don't work, regardless of the age of the audience.

We play primarily to younger people (25 and under). Here are some songs that get good responses (regardless of the age of the song - instrumentals are available for all of them, we integrate instrumentals into our performances):

California Love - Tupac
Gin and Juice - Snoop Dogg
Gold Digger - Kanye West
Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature
Jump Around - House of Pain
Next Episode - Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre
Yung LA - Ain't I

Remember, the goal is to get everyone involved. Do whatever you can to connect with the people out there. It is paramount that they know the song and know the lyrics. Get people up on stage and let them rap along. If you make it about them instead of about you, they'll never forget it.

I say go retro and use a song that even the parents and teachers would love to hear...

A song that excludes any explicit lyrics (appropriate for school event)...

The song that started the rap phenomenon...

Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight!

This is the extended music video, you can find a recording that just has the song at your local music store.

@mattb4rd I'm pretty sure dotcomboy's intentions were good, before voting someone unhelpful you should try and get ahold of them and ask them to change the status quo of their answer.

I would have to go with Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas. It's the biggest hit this year, it's up beat, and it would be pretty easy to sing along with.

Well @mattb4rd voted everyone who had a video that didn't work as unhelpful. I guess I voted it as unhelpful because I really don't like the song lol, but that was not fair so I changed my vote.

Why did I get voted unhelpful answers? I thought that was a good suggestion. I realize now that the video embedding doesn't work, but still, I think people, know the song.

If it were me, I'd go with the timeless classic "Here Comes The Hotstepper"
by Ini Kamozi. But that's how I roll. An almost totally obscure reference to Bo Jackson. Cha cha chang chang.
If you want something recent perhaps "Grillz" by Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali and Gipp. Even My mom was rocking that one two years ago so I'm sure the high school kids will be familiar with it.
