What are popular periods for reenactments where people sew their own costumes?

American Civil War, Medieval, and English Regency are the only ones I can think of. Most cosplay websites I find are mostly for Anime/Manga costumes. What else is popular?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You can find a reenactment group for just about any time period. I have been personally involved in Medieval, Renaissance and World War II groups. All these groups made garb for there personas. Also, if you get involved with a group but cannot sew your own clothing there is always someone willing to help and teach.

For medieval / renaissance time period try the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms) at http://sca.org/

For world war II era try the Living History regiment at http://www.ww2livinghistoryregiment.us/

Also the single action shooting society reenacts the old west of America. They do alot of costuming as well as a lot of target shooting. http://www.sassnet.com/

Good answer! If by re-enactment, the asker means battle re-enactments, it's not a long list. If it means any kinds of 're-enacting,' there are of course toga parties (not a lot of sewing always), and plenty of communities that re-enact the good parts of the early 20th century - so they sew their own flapper constumes, or if part of the swing-dance crowd, they make clothes so they can be authentic to the period. There is also the period of Old-Timey baseball which was famously mocked on Conan O'Brien : http://www.yourdailymedia.com/media/1126523055

IMO, though, the coolest re-enactors are in steampunk - they mix Victorian fashions and design with Victorian (and modern) technological influences. Some people make their own stuff by re-mixing clothes, but you can buy too: http://www.buysteampunk.com/steampunk_clothing.php

There are many people who reenact battles of the American Revolution. You can go to these sites for more information on this:
