What are my options for internet service?

I currently have Insight cable with Roadrunner Internet, but I want to switch to DirecTV. By dropping the cable, the Roadrunner will increase from $30 to $45. I don't have a phone line, so DSL is not an option. Also, I need to have wireless access for multiple Xbox's and another computer. Any options under $45?
Tip for best answer: M$1.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I had the same problem, I have Insight or now it is comcast I think.

This is what I did, I called insight and asked about specials. I found out that they are currently running a big promotion on winning back customers, It is called Win Back, see if they have any specials in your area and ask for basic cable and High Speed Internet. My cost is 27.00 per month for both or you pay the 45 for just one. I just got both.

Most of the time they will not offer you a special because you are a current customer. That is what they told me, so I told them I wanted to cancel my service and then start over with new service. This got me to a supervisor.

I explained what I wanted and I got the special, with no service interruption.
They do not want to lose a customer so give it a try.
You will find that there are flexible if they think they are going to lose a customer.

I went ahead and ordered Direct TV and just went down to Radio shack and got an A-B switch, just in case I wanted to switch back and forth between Direst and basic.

There is a plus in the mix because I did not have to pay Direct TV the extra 9.99 for my local channels, I just flip the switch to B.

Hope this helps.

Comcast and Verizon both offer internet services that get cheaper if they are purchased as part of a package but some of their indivudal internet plans may be in your price range.

Cricket also offers internet service.

I don't know your zip code so I can't speak to the providers in your area, however you may want to try to haggle with Roadrunner. They would often rather keep you as a customer at a discounted rate rather than loose you.

(Oh and if you do feel like giving the area you live in I could try to look up other providers too)

I definitely will see what they offer when I call to cancel. I have no problems with their internet, and would prefer to keep it, but I just don't like the principle of them raising my price $15 just because I don't want their cable.

Check out ClearWire.com. If you are willing to pay a little more you could go with a 4G Mifi card from Sprint. 4G is un-metered where as 3G is limited to 5GB per month then you start getting additional fees.
