what are midlevel IT jobs paying in Los Angeles these days?

I have a background in mid level IT(helpdesk, customer support, tech support, some QA and tech writing). I'm looking for a better gig in LA and it seems everything that I'm being offered in the mid level IT world is in the 40-50 range, which isn't what they used to pay it seems. Am I off here? Or is this that the economy is allowing people to pay less than they normally would.
Tip for best answer: M$0.63
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

In Los Angeles, an entry level DBA with a BS in Business CIS earns 50K+. If you have a degree in Computer Science, expect to earn more. IT Help Desk and Customer Support are usually considered entry level positions, so a mid-level salary for one of those jobs would be appropriate at 40-50K. You may be underestimating your skills.

Consider looking at system administration, network administration, programming or business systems analyst if you wish to earn more. If you need additional skills, consider a certificate program at a junior college. A mid-level job in these categories should earn around 75K, with entry level 40-50K. These numbers reflect job placement statistics from friends who are recent college graduates.

There are dozens of technology meetups and users groups in Los Angeles. I currently attend several on a regular basis. You will find very friendly folks who can help you increase your skills and help you find better job opportunities.

Dice currently lists over 2700 technology jobs in the Los Angeles metro area. This reflects an increase of over 10% in the last several weeks.
