The iTunesLP format was designed for interactive album artwork introduced by Apple Inc. in 2009. The iTunesLP was developed to operate with the iTunes 9 and iTunes 10 software. The software it uses is similar to the CMX format being created by the four major record labels, which allows users to view multimedia elements with the music. Additionally, the iTunesLP is used to bundle iTunes Extras content with selected movies and video clips from the iTunes Store. iTunesLP downloads use the .itlp proprietary file format with the extension, so that these files can be stored in a WebArchive with special conventions using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CSS Animations and plists.
The iTunesLP is a relatively new format, as it was released in November 2009 with limited releases added gradually over the course of the first few months.
