Hi and thank you for your question. There are quite a few ways to prepare homemade bird food by yourself as apposed to buying commercial products.
The diet of your pet bird will vary greatly depending on the species of your feathered friend. For instance for a Macaw you would need * Seeds: cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, sunflower, dried fruits: apple, banana, papaya, pineapple, raisin, grains: alfalfa meal, corn, corn flakes, corn meal, oats, wheat, nuts: almonds, coconut, pine nuts, pistachios, dried legumes: green split peas, pinto beans, dried vegetables: carrots, red peppers, sweet potatoes, dried whole egg, salt, brewer’s dried yeast and dried cane molasses.
After mixing those ingredients together you will need to feed the Macaw at least a half a cup of it per day. You should also give the bird] a special treat as well that is different from they eat on daily basis. All of the ingredients above will give your bird all the nutrients it will need to be healthy and have a long life.
