Hanna-Barbera Cartoons was an animation studio in the United States of America. It was founded in 1957 by Barbera Joseph and William Hanna , who were former animation directors in Metro Goldwyn Mayer.

The studio dominated the animation industry in the 20th century and produced lots of successful and popular cartoons. Between 1991 to 1996, the company passed through different ownership and today it is in the hands of Time Warner.

According to the Big Cartoon Database, Hanna-Barbera Productions (started by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera) has produced over a thousand cartoon characters. Bill Hanna was a director, television producer and cartoon artist. Joe Barbera was also a producer and director. The duo started producing cartoons in the late 1950s and continued until Bill Hanna’s death in 2001.

They produced cartoons like The Flintstones, The Huckleberry Hound Show, Smurfs, Tom and Jerry, Grape Ape, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Scooby-Doo Where are You, and Wacky Races, just to name a few. Hanna-Barbera also produced quit a few superhero cartoons like Birdman, Superfriends, Fantastic Four, and the more recent Powerpuff Girls.
