What are great home remedies when someone vomits to the max due to food poisoning? The pain is unbearable too!

Thanks heaps for your great help!

The most important thing is that you stay hydrated. Every 20 min drink two ounces of a mixture of 1/2 gatorade and 1/2 water, more if you can keep it down. Set a timer and be diligent about it. As for the pain, try Tylenol. I would normally recommend Motrin, because it tends to last longer, but the Tylenol will be easier on your stomach. I would stay away from carbonated drinks unless they are flat. You don't want to drink anything with bubbles in it as burping from the bubbles could trigger vomiting. You could try ginger ale, shake it first and try to get rid of the carbonation though. The ginger can help with nausea.

I know it is difficult, but try and pay close attention to your hydration. My SO was sent to the ER recently by his MD for IV fluids because he got dehydrated from a fever (no vomiting, no diarrhea). If you find that you are not urinating or you are urinating very little and it is highly concentrated, head to your doctor immediately.

My favorite is 7-up and Ginger Snaps.

Ginger is very good for the digestive system.

Not medical advice - not a doctor.

I know you want home remedies, but may I make a suggestion. Go see your primary care doctor or urgent care. Over 1800 people die each year in the United States from food poisoning - granted that's small compared to the number of people who get food poisoning (38 million). Nonetheless, it may ease your suffering if you get some drugs on board and proper treatment.

Previous posters are correct in saying that staying hydrated is most important! If the person is unable to keep down fluids orally - they must be seen at a hospital for IV fluids.

Good luck!

For the vomiting per se, I can't think of any home remedies because pretty much the one remedy is IV medication or a Phenergan suppository.
The best thing you can do is stay hydrated by drinking small amounts of liquid. Diluted gatorade is great and small amounts of 7-up too.
Food poisoning's dangerous though. If the vomiting doesn't go away there's not much you can do except go to the hospital because you can get dangerously dehydrated.
Feel better. Food poisoning is awful!
