What are fibroids and what are its symptoms?
My cousin who is 34 years old and never been married had a recent check up with her doctor. She had bleeding sometimes even if her last menstruation had stopped. She was wondering what could be the reason for this. She underwent some tests and ultrasound. Her gynecologist said that this could be due to fibroids. What are fibroids? What are the signs and symptoms of this?

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous (benign) tumors that develop inside of the uterus. the causes of this may be due to a hormonal imbalance. Uterine fibroids are often asymptomatic for some time, until they become larger in size or cause abdominal pressure. This is one reason why fibroids have been so difficult to treat and detect early on. Fibroids can be seen with an ultrasound, but there has to be a reason to do this first, and if a woman is experiencing no symptoms, then a doctor will typically not perform an ultrasound just to check.
Some of the symptoms of uterine fibroids that develop later are abdominal pressure or a feeling of fullness. It may feel as if you have gas or constipation. There may also be pelvic cramping in the region similar to the kind of cramps that women have during menstruation. This pressure can also lead to more frequent urination and sever vaginal bleeding. A person with uterine fibroids may also pass blood clots while menstruating and menstrual flow will be much heavier than normal.
